28-08-2013

Matterley Basin, 24-25 August 2013. The Team was back in the UK at Matterley Basin, near Winchester for the British GP which was held as part of the huge Festival of Motocross. The event sees every class of bike from 65cc to 450cc, Women’s World Championship, veterans and amateurs all competing over a packed four day schedule and is run in conjunction with the MX1 and MX2 World Championship.

MX1 Qualifying Race

Barragan made a great start in 7th but Karro was buried in the pack and after sliding out on the face of the step, down in the centre of the track; he was last. Barragan lost places in the early laps, leaving him in 13th and after gaining one place back near the end of the race, he finished in 12th. Karro fought hard throughout to eventually finish in 18th.

MX1 Race 1

Karro made the better start in 13th with his teammate just behind him but Barragan lost a number of places on the first lap, leaving him in 17th. Although he didn't look happy he managed to pick up two places during the race to take 14th. Karro also struggled to find a good rhythm on the demanding track but stuck at it to take 11th at the flag.

MX1 Race 2

Barragan made a cracking start in 4th with Karro in 8th and both of them ran a great pace early on. Karro lost a couple of positions but was riding well and started to real in his teammate who was dropping back. Karro passed Barragan and Roelants to move back up to 8th and looked odds on to hold on but a small crash cost him three places. After falling back to 14th, Barragan managed to gain two places back, before having a race-ending crash on the step down jump just after the pit lane. Karro gained a place after Cairoli was forced to retire and eventually crossed the line in 10th for 11th overall.

EMX250 Qualifying – Group A

Sterry hit a false neutral out of the gate and was left near the back of the field but fought his way through to 15th by the end of the first lap. He battled hard throughout the race making a number of passes to eventually finish in 11th.

EMX250 – Final

Sterry made a good start from his 22nd gate pick and rounded the first corner in 8th but lost places in the melee that is the norm in this class and by lap three was down in 15th. He fought hard but never really found a good rhythm and spent the rest of the race yo-yoing between 13th and 16th before finally crossing the line in 13th.

Matiss Karro said: “I didn’t ride so well in the first race, didn’t find the right lines but still managed 11th. I made a good start in the second race and felt really good until I dropped it. Then I couldn’t get my rhythm back but I still finished 10th which I’m happy with but could have been much better.”

Jonathan Barragan said: ”I struggled with arm pump in the first race and had a big crash in the second so not a good weekend for me.”

Team Manager, Steve Turner concluded: “Adam rode okay and fought hard throughout but without ever really getting to grips with the track. Every time he competes at this level he learns something which makes him improve as a rider. He just needs to continue doing what he’s doing and he can only get better."

"Jonathan had another bad day. It's disappointing for the team and for himself. He's happy with the bike and to be honest, there's not much wrong with it if he can gate in fourth but he just hasn't go the pace to stay with the front runners."

“Matiss was much better than last week and had two good results but he struggled with his start in the first race and also his rhythm. He made a great start in the second and was looking good until he dropped it.” He still managed 10th which was good but it could have easily been a 7th."
