20-05-2009

The Yamaha van Beers Racing Team has scored several World Championship points but also had some bad luck at round six of the World Championship Series in Spain. In the first moto of the MX2 class Evgeny Bobryshev scored 1 point after a very hard race. In the second moto he crashed at the start, but recovered and managed to work his way back up to 13th place. With still two laps to go the young Russian got mechanical problems and had to retire from the race. In the first moto of the MX1 class Carlos Campano and Rob van Vijfeijken were able to score World Championship points. In the second moto Carlos crashed really hard, got injured and had to retire from the race. Rob van Vijfeijken was unable to score points in the second moto.

After Evgeny qualified himself in tenth position on Saturday he started the first moto with a lot of confidence. Unfortunately when the gate dropped he got stuck between the two other riders and had to start the race in the back of the pack. Evgeny immediately started to race back to the front but this was not so easy on the circuit of Bellpuig. Still he managed to race his van Beers Yamaha to 20th place and scored one World Championship point.

In the second moto Evgeny got involved in a crash in the first turn. This time the rest of the race went better and after a few laps Evgeny had worked himself into 14th place. In the closing stages he moved into 13th place and it looked like this was the position where he should finish in. Unfortunately with only 2 laps to go Evgeny had to retire from the race due to mechanical problems.

Evgeny finished in 27th position overall in Spain. After six rounds he sits in 22nd position in the World Championship Series.

In the first moto of the MX1 class both van Beers riders had to start the race from outside of the top 20. Carlos Campano was able to work himself back up to 15th place in front of his home audience and in the second part of the moto he even moved into 13th place in which he finished. Rob van Vijfeijken was able to make some good progress during the race. Eventually he finished in 20th place and scored 1 World Championship point.

In the beginning of the second moto things went wrong for Carlos Campano. He crashed really hard and the pain was too intense to retire continue the race. Rob van Vijfeijken started the second moto in 26th place and did his best but finished in 22nd position.

Carlos Campano finished in eighteenth position overall and Rob van Vijfeijken ended the day in 25th place. After six rounds Carlos sits in 24th position and Rob in 28th after the Grand Prix of Spain. Next Thursday the Yamaha van Beers Racing Team will start the third round of the Dutch Open Championship Series in Rhenen.
