Van der Mark gets Russian World Supersport wildcard

14-08-2012

Van der Mark, currently second in the Superstock 600 European Championship, will ride alongside Australian Broc Parkes.

It will be a special weekend as the EAB Ten Kate Junior Team rider makes his World Supersport debut in Russia at the Moscow Raceway, located approximately 80 kilometres north-west of the Russian capital. World Supersport action in Russia will start on Wednesday 22 August with an extra test day.

Michael van der Mark: “I’m over the moon with the whole thing and can’t wait to race the Ten Kate Racing Products Honda CBR600RR. I tested this Honda last year and that was something special but to race with this bike is much more special. I would like to thank Ronald and Gerrit ten Kate from Ten Kate Racing, my EAB Ten Kate Junior Team boss Ferry Schoenmakers and all my sponsors for this great opportunity. It’s impossible to make any prediction but I will give everything I have.”

Ferry Schoenmakers (team boss EAB Ten Kate Junior Team): “I'm delighted with Michael van der Mark’s wildcard. It is a wonderful opportunity for him and therefore I'm Ronald and Gerrit ten Kate and all the sponsors very grateful. However, it is very important to know that this wildcard ride on the Ten Kate Racing Products World Supersport Honda is no guarantee on next year. There are still three major races on the program for the Superstock 600 European Championship as Michael is still fighting for the title. After Magny-Cours, the last race of 2012, we will focus on 2013 and will see what is possible for next season.”

“We chose to wildcard at Moscow because this is a new track for everyone. In addition, the Superstock 600 European Championship isn’t on the schedule here and there is an extra test day on Wednesday before the first Russia World Supersport weekend kicks off. We look really forward to this event.”
